Ankle Brachial Index is an easy procedure to diagnose the presence and or severity of a peripheral vascular disease, in patients with risk factors presenting to the ED with history of Claudication or Rest pain.
The normal value is 0.9 to 1.3, with values more than 1.3 suggestive of atherosclerotic or calcified vessels, and values less than 0.9 indicating a peripheral vascular disease.
